Osinbajo Remains In Charge of Nigeria - President Buhari Says

President Buhari who arrived Nigeria from London today, has asked Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to continue piloting the affairs of the nation as he needs more time to rest. He said this when he met with Osinbajo, his cabinet members and some governors at the state house this morning.

He also asked that no one should send any delegation to greet him in the state house. President Buhari also hinted that he might be back to the UK in a few weeks time for a follow up on his medicals.

Nigeria: 2019 General Elections Date Announces By INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC of Nigeria, has announced dates for 2019 general elections. 


In a statement posted on its website Thursday, the electoral commission said it was making the announcements well ahead “in order to ensure certainty in our dates for elections, and to allow for proper planning by the Commission, political parties, security agencies, candidates and all stakeholders”.

“To that extent, the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, 16th February 2019, while the Governorship/State Assembly/Federal Capital Territory Area Council Elections will hold on Saturday 2nd March 2019.”

The commission also announced that 23 of its electoral officers being prosecuted for various electoral offences will be placed on half salary and will not report for duty pending the determination of their respective cases by the court.

Nigerian House of Representative To Send Delegation To South Africa Over Xenophobic Attacks

In a bid to address the increasing spate of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, the House of Reps have agreed to send a delegation to South Africa to speak with the relevant authorities.

The House of Representatives delegation will be led by the House Majority Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila. Others in the delegation include Committee on Foreign Relations, Hon. Nnena Ukeje, Hon. Sadiq Ibrahim, Hon. Henry Nwawuba, Hon. Nasiru Zango-Daura and Hon. Shehu Aliyu-Musa

Former Nigerian Minister of Environment Amina Mohammed Sworn-in As UN Deputy Secretary-General

Immediate Nigeria past Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed, has been sworn-in as the fifth Deputy Secretary-General of the UN at the UN Headquarters in New York on Tuesday.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the UN Secretary-General António Guterres administered the oath of office to Mohammed.

NAN reports that the Deputy UN chief, after her swearing-in, immediately swung into action by declaring open the 2017 Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Segment on Operational Activities for Development.

Her speech at the ECOSOC event was her first official engagement, followed by a brief press encounter with the UN Correspondents.
Mohammed, who was appointed by Guterres on Dec. 15, 2016, as his deputy, was supposed to have assumed office on Jan. 1, 2017.

Nigeria: JAMB Stops Accepting The Use Of Awaiting Results

The participation of O`Level awaiting result of candidates with Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of Nigeria has been cancelled from participating in the universities tertiary matriculation examination (UTME).

Fabian Benjamin, spokesman of the board, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, 28th February.

He said this is one of the outcomes of the restructuring exercise embarked upon by the organization under the leadership of Ishaq Oloyede, the current registrar.
Benjamin also revealed that the sale of application forms would commence in March and added that henceforth, candidates would have to submit their O’level results before admission process begins.
He also revealed that candidates have been restricted to the choice of only one public university.
