Sierra Leone News: Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel Beefs Up Security

The General Manager of Radisson Blu, Mammy Yoko Hotel, Mr. Nuno Neves has informed us that due to the continue attacks on high quality hotels in West Africa, they have decided to beef up security in their hotel and not wait for any emergency.
Nuno Neves said since all started, they have decided to bring in the police to help the G4S Security Company at the gate and they have instituted a stop and search method, searching anyone entering the premises of the hotel.

As part of their commitment to promoting the local content policy and as a way of improving the lives of farmers, Sierra Leone Brewery Limited (SLBL) will this year purchase a total of 8,000 (eight thousand) bags of Sorghum, according to the Company’s Supply Chain Manager, John Richardson.

It could be recalled that SLBL created the sole market for sorghum produced by local farmers since 2005 which attracted hundreds of farmers to go into the business as a way of earning more revenue as Brewery is investing in that market instead of importing the raw materials for their products.

$USD1 Million worth research laboratory for infectious diseases officially opens yesterday, January, 21, 2016 in northern ‪Sierra Leone.

The infectious disease research laboratory was recently established in collaboration with scientists from the University of Cambridge and supported by funding from the Wellcome Trust, as part of an effort to build capacity in the area of infectious disease research and surveillance.

Ghana News: President Mahama Makes Ministrial Appointments

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr Kenneth Wujangi, a Management and Integrated Rural Development Specialist as a Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) at the Flagstaff House.
A statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah also announced the nomination of the following as Minister Designate, Prosper Douglas Bani- Minister Designate of the Interior, Mr Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Member of Parliament (MP)- Minister Designate of Youth and Sports and Mr John Alexander Ackon- Minister Designate of the Ashanti Region.

Republican Presidential Front-runner and American Billionaire, Donald Trump has threatened to evacuate Nigerians from America once he becomes President of the United State of America (USA).

Trump issued the threat on Sunday during a rally held at Wichita, Kansas, claiming that: “Nigerians and Mexicans have taken all the jobs meant for honest hard working Americans.”

The Presidential Candidate, who tagged Nigeria as a corrupt Nation, noted this as the major reason many Nigerians leave for America.

“We can’t have that! If I become president, we’ll send them all home. We’ll build a wall at the Atlantic Shore. Then maybe we’ll re-colonised Africans because obviously they did not learn a damn thing from the British!” Trump said.

At the reception, Buhari rewarded World scrabble champion, Wellington Jighere with N1.5m while his coach got N1.2m & his team security got N450k reward. The Golden Eaglets got N1.2m each while their Coach got N900k and Assistant coach got N600k. Other Golden eaglet team officials got between N200, 000 to -300,000.

Dasuki Drags FG To ECOWAS Court, Demands N500m Damages

Following his continued detention despite meeting his bail conditions, former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, has filed a suit against the Federal Government before the ECOWAS Court in Abuja and is demanding payment of N500 million damages for alleged rights infringement.

The Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA) on Tuesday, 19^th January, 2016 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture for Belgium, Luxemburg, Africa, Caribbean and Pacific at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown.
The objective of the MOU is for the purpose of developing the contacts between both institutions as a means of contributing to the development of trade and economic relations between Sierra Leone and Belgium.

Sierra Leone Government Fires Serious Warning To Private School Owners Over Tuition Fee Increment

As the new academic year began on Monday, the Sierra Leone government has warned privately run schools against unlawful increment of tuition fees.

An official of the Ministry of Education said Monday that any principal or head of school who increase its tuition fees against what the government would accept will be forced to refund parents.

Speaking on the matter, Brima Michael Turay, Public Relations Officer of the ministry of Education said they have sent letters to all schools to the effect. He said about 90 percent of the over 900 private schools nationwide whom they sent letters to have responded to a request for a verification tour to inspect school facilities and ascertain fees.

The U.N. Security Council is set to implement "significant" punitive measures after North Korea's nuclear test and will begin working on a new resolution "immediately," a statement released by Security Council President Elbio Rosselli says.

After Wednesday's meeting, the council, which includes China, Russia and the United States, together condemned the test as a "clear violation of (past) resolutions ... and of the nonproliferation regime."

The Lagos State Government said it inherited a debt of N430 billion from the administration of Babatunde Raji Fashola.

The debt legacy was revealed yesterday as the state announced plans to float a new bond of N43 billion in the Capital Market this year as part of move to finance its budget deficit.

Commissioner for Finance, Mustapha Akinkunmi however said the debt was not a big burden for the state as the government has set money aside to liquidate a fraction of it.
