Sierra Leone: “Don’t Ever Claim You Have Masters Degree” – Parliament Leader Warns Presidential Nominee


The Minority Leader of Parliament Hon Dr Bernadette Lahai has warned one of the presidential nominees, Hon Capt. Abdul Rahman Kamara to refrain from saying that he has a Masters Degree.
Rtd. Capt. Kamara is the Presidential nominee for Deputy Minister of Defence who appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointment on Wednesday 30th March, 2016. This warning came about when the presidential nominee revealed that since 1986 he is yet to received his certificate because he failed to pay his due college bills and therefore his result was withheld by the University.

“You should never claim that you have a Masters degree anywhere in the world,” MP Bernardette Lahai cautioned him.
Another Presidential nominee Mohamed Bangura proposed Minister of Information and Communication was questioned by the Minority Leader over the authenticity of the certificate of the degree he submitted.
The Committee discovered that as there was a serious spelling mistake in the wordings on the certificate. For instance, instead of ‘HAS CERTIFIED’ the certificate read ‘MAS CERTIFIED’
Hon Lahai expressed shock that a credible University in Canada should make such a mistake. Mr Bangura responded that that what was issued him.
The Minority Leader however said that she would follow up the presidential nominee’s certificate.
The other presidential nominees interviewed were Dr Christiana Thorpe Proposed Deputy minister of Education, Dr Sylvia Blyden Proposed Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs, Monfred Sesay Proposed Appeal Court Judge, Bai Mahmoud Bangura Proposed Minister of Youth Affairs, Sidi Yayah Tunis Proposed Minister Of Tourism and Culture, Nanette Thomas Proposed Minister Of Political Affairs, and Ahmed Kanu Proposed Minister Of Sports.
