Sierra Leone News: Government to Charge Interest on International Money Transfers is False – Presidential Spokesman

Presidential Spokesman of the Republic of Sierra Leone- Abdulai Bayraytay has in a press release rubbished misleading whatsapp message making rounds on social media that His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma will announce a 25% commission for any money transfer into the country, as of January 1st 2017.

In the release, Bayraytay called the concocted message “totally false, and blatantly mischievious”.
From the Presidential Spokesman’s pen: “Whilst the Government recognises the invaluable role the social media continues to play in promoting the ideals of democracy, the protection and defence of human rights, development journalism and providing alternative avenues for citizens’ voices to be heard, its misuse, unfortunately, is undoubtedly defeating the very essence of the social media.”



He underlined the fact that it is in regard of the above Sierra Leone continues to be in sync with every social media platform, in finding lasting solutions of handling the publication and promulgation of false news and other forms of inappropriate use of the social media.
