IFAD President To Visits Sierra Leone

In his move to reaffirm his organization’s commitment to support the Government of Sierra Leone in its activities to foster inclusive agricultural development and rural transformation, the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Dr. Kanayo F. Nwanze has accepted a special invitation from the Government and the people of Sierra Leone to visit the country from 4 to 6 August, 2016.  This two day visit will enable the IFAD head to better assess the extent to which the fund has contributed to improving the quality of lives of the rural poor. Dr. Nwanze will be hosted by the Hon. Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, Prof. Monty Jones.

During his visit, the IFAD President will pay a courtesy call on His Excellency the president of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma at State House, where they are expected to deliberate on ways of exploring new opportunities for joint investments in the country’s agricultural sector.  While in the country, Dr. Kanayo F. Nwanze will also address members of the United Nations Development Stakeholders, the staff of IFAD projects in Sierra Leone, Projects’ beneficiaries, Departments and Agencies of line ministries (MAFFS, MoFED, MSWGCA, Youth and Local Government, etc.), the Bank of Sierra Leone, the Road maintenance Fund, the Sierra Leone Roads Authority, the Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute and members of the fourth Estate, to name a few, before his departure for neighboring Liberia.

Now a household name in the country’s development, the partnership between Sierra Leone and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has been significantly strengthened since the Fund initiated its first project in the country in 1980.
