Sierra
Leone senior national team, Leone Stars will end the 2015 calendar year at
118th position as the team moved three places up from 121st in the latest FIFA
world ranking released last Thursday morning. The Leone Stars amassed a total of 295 points to stay behind
Azerbaijan, Mauritania, Aruba, Chad and Central African Republic respectively
in the world stage, whilst in Africa the country was ranked 37th. The end of year ranking figure for Sierra Leone shows a rapid
drop in the ranking compared to December 2014 when the country was amongst the
top 100 footballing nations in 86th position.
Meanwhile, Côte d'Ivoire finished 2015 as the top ranked Africa
Nation by finishing in 19th position with 950 points in the world stage and
first in Africa, while the Fennecs of Algeria end 2015 as runners-up after
gathering 845 points. Ghana are third on the log with 778 points.
Libya were the best movers in Africa, moving 32 places up to 21
position whilst Liberia are the worst mover as they moved 21 places down to 29
position.
Elsewhere, Belgium claimed the team of the year award for 2015
as they jumped into first position (their first-ever) on the FIFA /Coca-Cola
World Ranking in the November ranking; their 3-1 victory over four-time world
champion Italy in Brussels on 13 November saw them hold on to the coveted
position for the final ranking of 2015.
Turkey receives the award for best mover of the year thanks to
the 329 points they collected over the last 12 months of football.
