Sierra Leone News: NRA Has collected Over Le100 billion in 3 weeks over taxes

National Revenue Authority (NRA) Commissioner General, Haja Kalla Kamara has said that as the operation to forcefully collect all taxes owed them enters the third week, they have now collected just over Le100 billion. She made this disclosure yesterday during a telephone interview.
Madam Kalla Kamara said already they have collected over one trillion, nine seventy nine billion and they are short of about one hundred billion to reach their two trillion and seventy nine billion target set by IMF.

The Commissioner General said they are still hoping to collect more monies as many other institutions are rushing to pay rather than wait for the NRA to visit them and shut down their business. She said many big institutions made payment on Monday, which she said lift the amount to Le100 billion.
She said that the next two weeks will be very crucial and they will continue to push as some institutions are still not complying with their reminder notice. “If they fail to visit us these days, then we will have to visit them and shut them down until they make the full payment owed to NRA.”
Madam Kalla Kamara said during the first week they collected about Le20 billion and last week they collected Le31biilion, which has brought the total to over Le50 billion. She said what they collected from Friday to today has brought the total to Le100 billion, which she says is encouraging as they are yet to meet the target set by International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The Commissioner General averred that IMF target set for them this 2015 is Le2,079 trillion and they believe they will soon reach it and maybe surpass it because they have worked out all the possibilities.
