The Sierra Leone National Sports
Council (NSC) has said that the Football Association (SLFA) has been dissolved
with immediate effect from Wednesday, December 9, 2015, and the Sports body
also reinstated the seven-man committee that was recently banned by the Isha
Johansen led executive. The
Sports Council is the supreme regulator with a monitoring and control role over
all sporting associations in the country.
FootballSierraLeone reports that FIFA will perceive this as government
interference, but the sports body said the dissolution was in accordance with
FIFA mandate after a seven-man committee was set up to identify the forty-seven
voting delegates for a congress which is now overdue.
A Press Release issued and signed by
the Director of Sports Ibrahim BBangura also stated, “Shockingly and most unethical, the
present administration of the SLFA dissolved the seven-man committee even
though it was set up by FIFA and endorsed by the President of the Republic of
Sierra Leone Ernest Bai Koroma.”
“Now that the Confederation of African
Football (CAF) ban has been lifted and Sierra Leone will once again host
international football matches, the National Sports Council believes that no
individual or organization should hold football to ransom, therefore, the
Sports Council has reinstated the seven-man committee who have the
responsibility to run the affairs of football in the country and regularize the
delegates.”
“The National Sports Council is
inviting the seven-man committee to a meeting at the Bishop House, Siaka Steven
Stadium on Thursday 10th December 2015 at 2:00 pm.”
