Sierra Leone News: Since 2006, Sierra Rutile Third-Quarter of 2016 Production is the Highest

Sierra Rutile’s third quarter (July, August and September 2016) production figures of 43,081 tonnes of Rutile have been recorded as the highest since the company started or resumed operation in 2006, the company stated in a release. The third quarter (Q3) production figures show a 24 percent increase compared to the second quarter (April, May, June) and a 27 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2015. This brings total Rutile production in 2016 so far to 104,489.

The company said that the Gangama dry mining plant continue to perform 17 percent above its planned production “as a result of throughput and utilization.”
Ilmenite production also increased in the third quarter (Q3) to 7,143 tonnes compared to 5,025 tonnes in Q2 but dropped compared to the 10,229 tonnes produced during the same period in 2015.

The sand miner also produces zircon. Production guidance for the year is between 135,000 and 145,000 tonnes.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sierra Rutile John Sesay said, “we are delighted with the excellent production performance for the quarter, demonstrating the strength of our operations, in particular, the Gangama dry mine continues to perform ahead of our expectations. We anticipate a strong final quarter and we remain on track to meet our production guidance for the year.”
