Sierra Leone News: Parliament Endorses 5 President Koroma’s Nominees

Members of Parliament approved five Presidential nominees to head different sectors in the country.

They are Ambassador Andrew G. Bangali (National Chairman Civil Registration Authority), Rtd. AIG Sorie Brima Kargbo (Chairman National Drugs Enforcement Agency), Mr. Steven Aiah Mattia (Electoral Commissioner Eastern Region), Mr. Babatunde Pratt (Member Political Parties Registration Commission) and Alphonso Willie M Ngana (member Millennium Challenge Corporation).

Speaking in the Well of Parliament, the Majority Leader and Chairman Parliamentary Committee on Appointments and the Public Service, Hon Ibrahim Bundu said that the nominees appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments on Wednesday 19th October 2016.

Hon. Bundu said that the nominees responded to various questions posed by the Committee and that the Committee has no iota of doubt about the capability and suitability of them to execute their given task.
The Deputy Speaker Hon Chernor Bah said that Ambassador Bangali represented the country well when he was the Ambassador to Ethiopia, and that he believes that this time round he would play a key role in strengthening the Civil Registration Authority.
Hon. Sualou Koroma of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party said that he was impressed by the work of the former Ambassador to Ethiopia as the country can now boast of an Embassy in Addis Ababa.
Hon. Sualou Koroma furthered that the appointment of Mr. Aiah Mattia as Eastern Region Commissioner of NEC is timely and in place as he had gained a lot of international experience in electioneering.

Hon. Bernadette Lahai of the SLPP noted that for far too long, Eastern Region has been without a Commissioner but now that it had gotten one, she hopes that the new Commissioner will ensure transparency to avoid any rejection of results come 2018 as countries like Burundi and Congo are currently suffering from the aftermath of post elections.
