The
Commissioner of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Western Area Miatta
French and the Commissioner of Public Service Commission (PSC) Theresa Oniel
have on Thursday May 26, duly subscribed to the oath of office following their
respective parliamentary approvals.
Congratulating
Commissioner French, President Koroma said “your reappointment is obvious that
you have been performing well.” He pointed out that before now the appointment
of NEC commissioners was based on political affiliation but when he became
president, he said, there was need to change the method and lay a solid
foundation for “our elections to be professionally conducted and elections
officials to be appointed base on professional merit”. By this, he said, “our
elections will not only be accepted at national level, but also at
international level.”
To
Commissioner Oniel, the president informed that she was about to join a
hardworking team, and therefore expressed hope that she would work assiduously
with the team to transform the civil service, which he described as an
important arm of government as well as pivotal to the development of anation.
“You have to transform that sector for the general benefit of all,” he urged.
By way
of closing remarks, Ms. French pledged her commitment to the president and the
people of Sierra Leone.
