Sierra Leone News: Govt allocates Le 3.7bn for roads brushing – Majority Leader

The Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon Ibrahim Bundu, on 10th November,  disclosed for the months of May and September 2015, the Government through the Road Maintenance Funds (RMF) allocated Le 3,734, 538, 497.5 (three billion seven hundred and thirty-four million, five hundred and thirty-eight thousand, four hundred and ninety-seven Leones) for road brushing across the country.
This disclosure was made during the debate by MPs on the two reports from the Committee on Works, Housing and Infrastructure on the state of the OAU Villas and the oversight visit to road construction sites nationwide.
The Majority Leader, Hon Ibrahim Bundu disclosed that Le 279, 562, 500 (two hundred and seventy-nine million five hundred and sixty-two thousand five hundred Leones) and Le 171,488,900 (one hundred and seventy-one million four hundred and eighty-eight Leones) were allocated to Port Loko in May and September respectively for brushing.

He maintained that Le 298, 567,500 (two hundred and ninety-eighty million five hundred and sixty-seven thousand five hundred Leones) and Le251, 640,00 (two hundred and fifty-one million six hundred and forty thousand Leones) were allocated to Kenema for brushing in May and September 2015, respectively, whiles Le 287, 700 (two hundred and eighty-seven million seven hundred thousand Leones) and Le 192, 777,000 (one hundred and ninety-two million seven hundred and seventy-seven thousand Leones) were allocated to Bo in May and September.
According to him, Le 285, 405, 715 (two hundred and eighty-five thousand fur hundred and five thousand seven hundred and fifteen Leones) and Le 275, 000,000(two hundred and seventy million Leones) to Makeni in May and September whiles Le 210m was allocated to Western Area in May 2015 for brushing.
He explained that despite these monies allocated the grass has covered the trunk, feeder and village roads completely which is very risky for vehicles plying those roads, calling on the Chairman of the Works committee to take note of that as they will have to investigate the contractors who received those monies for brushing.
According to him, these monies were not given to any politicians or Paramount Chiefs but to private contractors who will want to shift the blame to the politicians which is very wrong, disclosing that “we will go down to know who these contractors are and where they have brushed,” adding that if they as MPs do not stand to save the names of politicians they will remain to regret their act.
