Arsenal
manager Arsene Wenger responded to fan disharmony and calls for him to
resign during the latest press conference ahead of the game agains
Norwich City, It should be noted that under Wenger as
Arsenal manager, the club have won three EPL titles. However, the manager
has not lifted the trophy since 2004, with their 2014 and 2015 FA Cup triumphs
instead.
Fans have grown frustrated with the club after the failure in
all the competitions this season. Arsenal’s supporters were even seen with
a banner reading: “Arsene
thanks for the memories but it’s time to say goodbye”.
Speaking ahead of the
club’s match with Norwich City Wenger has responded to fan disharmony: “I
wish when I go the club goes higher up and wins the Champions League and
championship every year. I will be the biggest supporter in the stand
because I will feel i have contributed to that.”
The Frenchman stressed: “You
have to remember when we built the stadium, we had five to seven difficult
financial years. We had to be three years in the Champions League and have a
54,000 average attendance. We had to sell our best players and survive.
And we didn’t do three years out of five, we did five years out of five. During
that time it was very competitive.”
Wenger has also aired his own frustration: “It
is very frustrating as we were in the position for a long, long time to compete
for the title. We won the FA Cup twice and the Community Shield and wanted to
go one step up and win the league and that is why we are frustrated. I can
understand the frustration because nobody is more frustrated than we are. Our
disappointment has not to go too far.”
