Luis
Suárez was booked with a yellow card against Valencia on Sunday for a
ridiculous reason.
In the
final minutes of the first half, Valencia keeper Diego Alves made a great save
off a Lionel Messi header, and full-back Guilherme Siqueira cleared the ball to
a corner as he was challenged by Gerard Piqué, who barely touched the player's
leg. Siqueira then wasted almost two minutes being attended by the medical team
for an imaginary injury, a strategy repeatedly used by the Valencia players
during the entire game.
If you
thought he did because Suárez said something completely out of line, you will
be surprised at what Borbalán himself wrote in his match report:
In the 39th minute the player (9) Suárez Díaz,
Luis Alberto was cautioned for the following reason: Approaching me with the
following terms: "they are wasting time, all the time they want, and you
are allowing it."
I don't
know about you, but I really don't see how that is a bookable statement. Suárez
was honest, did not use any harsh words, and was telling the truth to the ref's
face.
Maybe the truth hurts, and since Borbalán is the authority, he
does what he wants. Even when it's something unbelievably stupid.
